Northern Kentucky University has hired Jason Ruppelt to fill the role of assistant coach. Ruppelt previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at Louisville.
“I am thrilled to welcome Jason to Northern Kentucky University,” said NKU head volleyball coach Liz Hart. “Jason’s passion for the game and coaching experiences at the collegiate and club levels will only help elevate our program.”
Ruppelt’s primary responsibilities with the Cardinals included video breakdown, assisting with scouting reports and on-court training. During his first season, the Cardinals captured the American Athletic Conference championship with a perfect 18-0 league record. Additionally, Ruppelt was a head coach with the Under-15 team at Kentucky Indiana Volleyball Academy, widely respected as one of the top volleyball clubs in the nation.
“It’s an exciting time to be at NKU with the move to Division I, the growth of the university and the way this team is continuing on an upward trend,” said Ruppelt. “I’m happy to stay in a region that is very strong from a volleyball standpoint. I would like to thank [NKU director of athletics] Ken [Bothof], [senior associate athletic director] Kurt [Moeller] and Liz for this opportunity.”
A 2010 graduate of South Dakota State University, Ruppelt spent seven years working with the Jackrabbits’ volleyball program, first as a student assistant and manager where he worked as a practice player and helped with camps. Upon attaining his Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, Ruppelt continued with SDSU as a graduate assistant coach. He worked as the team’s video coordinator and managed the team’s academics, helping SDSU to a team GPA of 3.63 in the final year of his tenure.
Ruppelt is currently pursuing a Masters of Education in Administration of Student Affairs from South Dakota State University.
NKU posted a 19-11 record during the 2014 season, advancing to the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
