Special to NKyTribune

Flappers and Wise Guys, shades of Prohibition (without the prohibitions), jumps, jives and spins, a “killer” silent auction and you have — yes, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra’s 21st Valentine Gala.

Conductor J.R. Cassidy has done it again, in fine style. He has flair.

This special extravaganza — more than a concert, more than a fancy dinner, more than a fundraiser, more than a show, more! — will take place Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Newport Syndicate in Newport, starting with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $125 each ($50 is tax deductible) and include cocktails, three-course dinner with wine, dancing and entertainment. It is black-tie optional with 1920s accessorizing encouraged.

Make reservations by Feb. 10 evening by contacting the KSO at (859) 431-6216 or visiting www.kyso.org

KSO GALA

For 21 years, this event has been one of the “must do” events that cut across the region. It is the chief fundraiser for KSO, supporting educational and family offerings which are free — including a summer concert at Devou Park bandshell.

Among the entertainment:

KSO’s own Newport Ragtime Band with vocalists Kathy Wade, Deondra Means and Troy Hitch will light up the dance floor with tunes of Prohibition, straight from WLW’s and Newport’s hey-day.

The sounds of the KSO’s brand new group — The Devou-Doo Daddies —as it covers the great swing revival acts of the 1990s (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Brian Setzer and more.)

They join the KSO Boogie Band, The Flood Wall Jazz Quintet and the Newport Ragtime Band.

KSO will play hits by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
