The closing of Northern Kentucky University on Thursday will not affect the women’s basketball game against Jacksonville, which is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Center.
Tonight’s contest is NKU’s annual Think Pink game, supporting the American Cancer Society. Fans will receive $3 admission for sporting pink apparel. The first 200 fans in attendance will also receive a free pink ribbon grocery bag.
In addition to the Think Pink promotions, NKU will be offering $1 hot chocolates to help warm fans up during the game. A shuttle service is also being provided for students.
The service will begin at 6:15 p.m. and will pick up at Callahan//North Terrace and Norse Commons until 7:30 p.m. Shuttle drop-off back to the dorms will begin at halftime until a half hour after the game ends.
NKU is 14-11 overall and 5-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while Jacksonville brings a 9-14 overall record and a 4-6 mark in conference play. NKU took a 3-2 lead in the all-time series with Jacksonville on Jan. 24 with a 70-59 victory over the Dolphins in Jacksonville, Florida.
Northern Kentucky University’s Jess Adamson and DeMondrea Starnes each earned Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors the league office announced.
Adamson took home Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades after breaking his own program record in the shot put with a throw of 15.55m (51’0.25”) finishing fourth at the Tom Hathaway Distance Carnival.
The mark currently leads the A-Sun Conference. The sophomore broke his old program record of 15.37m (50’5”) set earlier this season.
Starnes earned Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades after placing first in the triple jump at the Tom Hathaway Distance Carnival with a leap of 11.23m (36’10.25”). Earlier this season, Starnes set a new program record in the triple jump at the Kentucky Invitational of 11.52m(37’9.5”).
The men’s and women’s track and field squads return to action Feb. 28-March 1 at the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winston Salem, N.C.
Northern Kentucky University’s Danielle Donahue was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for women’s tennis, the conference office announced.
Donahue, a sophomore from Eagan, Minnesota, picked up her third win of the season last Saturday, coming from behind to defeat IPFW’s Ella Norgren, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in a match which the Norse lost by a 5-2 final score. Donahue now stands 3-4 in singles play in 2015, playing primarily in the No. 4 flight.
“I’m thrilled that Danielle’s hard work has been rewarded with recognition from the A-Sun,” said head coach Brian Nester. “This award shows how our team is improving across the board, and we will hopefully continue that improvement on into conference play later this spring.”
Donahue is NKU’s first tennis player to earn the conference’s weekly award. She is the first NKU player of the week since Michelle Schirmann was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week on April 6, 2009.
The Norse, now 1-4 on the season, return to action on Friday, Feb. 27, when they take on Detroit Mercy in Chicago, the first of three matches in the Windy City. NKU will face Chicago State on Saturday morning before closing out the trip against Northern Iowa.
