NKU’s record-setting Webber earns Track Athlete of the Week honors from Atlantic Sun Conference

Northern Kentucky University track and field athlete J.J. Webber was named Atlantic Sun Conference Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

“J.J. is running much better indoor than he was last year at this time,” head track and field coach Steve Kruse said. “He opened up the season with a school-record in the 3,000 and followed it up with a school-record and win in the 5,000 last week in a race where he was not really pushed. We’re really excited about where he is right now. Plus, anytime you earn an award like this with the caliber of athlete we have in the A-Sun, it’s always a great honor.”

Webber placed first at the Thundering Herd Invitational setting a new program-record in the 5,000 with a time of 14:29.16. The time broke the previous school-best of 14:35.82. It was Webber’s first run at the 5,000 this indoor season.

This is Webber’s fourth Track Athlete of the Week award in his career at NKU. The accolade adds to an impressive resume for the distance runner that includes two A-Sun Cross Country Championships, two A-Sun Cross Country Runner of the Year honors (2013, 2014), and nine A-Sun Cross Country Runner of the Week honors, among others.

The Norse track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Tom Hathaway Distance Carnival hosted by Indianapolis University. For more information on the NKU track and field program and all Norse athletics, please visit this site.
