This week a Dry Ridge native and Coast Guard veteran became the 1,000th person interred at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North.
Paul Davis Oliver, of Dry Ridge, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, was interred Feb. 16, joining 842 other veterans, including two veterans who were killed in action in Afghanistan, and 158 dependents/children at the cemetery. Oliver served at the 14th Coast Guard District in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1959 to 1962. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Oliver.
“We are honored to provide a final resting place of honor and dignity for Mr. Oliver so close to his home,” said Heather French Henry, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA). “His family and the family of all veterans at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North can be assured their loved ones are well taken care of.”
KVCN mainly serves veterans from within a 75-mile radius of the cemetery, including parts of Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North is Kentucky’s third state veterans cemetery. Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West opened in Hopkinsville in March 2004. Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, in Radcliff, opened June 1, 2007. Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County opened in October 2010.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North is located on 99 acres off Interstate 75 at mile marker 154 in Williamstown. Phase One construction includes a 3,600-square-foot administration building, a 4,400-square-foot maintenance building with service area, committal facility and a columbarium. It also has appropriate parking, road network, walking path and landscaping commensurate with the dignity and honor of a state veterans cemetery.
