The Thomas More College baseball has been chosen as the preseason favorite to win the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), according to a vote of league coaches.
The annual preseason poll collects votes from each of the league’s nine head coaches.
Thomas More and 15th-year head coach Jeff Hetzer, winners of last season’s championship tournament, totaled four first-place votes and 74 points.
The Saints finished the 2014 season 25-19 and won the program’s third PAC Championship Tournament title. They were regional semifinalists at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional in Marietta, Ohio.
Washington & Jefferson College, the 2014 regular-season league champion, collected three first-place votes and 71 points to finish second. Bethany College and Waynesburg University tied for third with 52 points each. Waynesburg also received one first-place vote.
Thiel College was picked fifth, totaling 48 points and receiving the final first-place vote. Saint Vincent College was picked sixth (45), Geneva College seventh (23), Grove City College eighth (21) and Westminster College ninth (19).
Thomas More is scheduled to open the 2015 season on February 28 when it travels to Franklin, Indiana to play Rockford College at 2 p.m. and host Franklin College at 4 p.m.
