Kentucky Community and Technical College System students will not see an increase in tuition for the 2015-16 academic year. The Board of Regents, during its quarterly board meeting, revised the 2015-16 tuition rates, which were originally approved in June, to stay equal with the current year’s tuition rates.
“We recognize that tuition continues to be one of the largest barriers to students who are pursuing a postsecondary education,” said KCTCS Board of Regents Chair P.G. Peeples. “We remain committed to being the most affordable option for higher education in the state.”
Although the board previously approved a $3 per credit hour tuition rate increase for in-state KCTCS students for 2015-16, the tuition approved at the meeting will remain at $147 per credit hour rate for in-state students, $294 per credit hour rate for out-of-state students from counties contiguous to Kentucky and $515 for all other out-of-state students.
“This board decision to freeze tuition supports Dr. Box’s vision of putting students first and helping them achieve their dreams,” said Peeples.
In other business, the board:
• Approved or ratified three certificate programs for Hopkinsville Community College (Aging Services, Substance Abuse Recovery Coach and Industrial Maintenance Robotics Technician).
• Approved 7,355 academic credential requests (certificates, diplomas or associate degrees) between Oct. 7, 2014 and Jan. 12, 2015.
The credentials include:
• 4,740 candidates for certificates,
• 399 candidates for diplomas, and
• 2,216 candidates for associate degrees.
The next meeting of the KCTCS Board of Regents will be June 11 – 12 at Hopkinsville Community College, in Hopkinsville.
