March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month; health department offers events, tests, more


The Colon Cancer Awareness that was scheduled for March 5 at the Lyric Theatre has been canceled due to the weather. The Health Department plans to reschedule the event to a later date in March.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will be working with several regional and state groups to help get people screened for colon cancer.

Upcoming events include:

· Colon Cancer Awareness Event, 4 – 7 p.m. March 5 at the Lyric Theatre, 300 East 3rd Street.

The health department will offer free take-home FIT test kits, provide health information and have the inflatable colon on display. The event offers free at-home test, colon cancer resources, the inflatable colon, health Education, and free blood pressure checks.

· Dress in Blue Day, March 6.

Everyone is encouraged to wear blue on Friday, March 6, to help raise awareness of colon cancer.
