Six juniors from Newport Central Catholic High School have been selected to represent NCC in the Governor’s Scholar Program this summer.
They are:
Ansley Davenport, daughter of Scott and Jeunet Davenport of St. Mary Parish
Ethan Hardt, son of Greg and Liz Hardt of St. Therese Parish
Wally Johnson, son of Joseph and Karla Johnson of St. Philip Parish
Morgan Martinez, son of Patrick and Amanda Shryock of St. Therese Parish and Randall and Katy Martinez
Rachel Murrin, daughter of Tom and Mary Murrin of St. Catherine Parish
Parker Osburg, son of Jim and Tracy Osburg of St. Therese Parish
This prestigious five-week study program provides academic and personal growth in a non-traditional experience at Bellarmine University, Morehead State University, or Murray State University.
Students were selected on the basis of test scores from the PSAT, SAT or ACT. Their unweighted GPA and difficulty of course load was also taken into consideration. Students submitted a writing entry and demonstrated what they have done in the areas of extracurricular activities and service.
Jason Huther, principal of Newport Central Catholic, adds that acceptance into the Governor’s Scholars Program is one of the top academic awards in the state and affords students an experience they will never forget.
“Having six students selected from Newport Central Catholic is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and to the stellar academic and character programming at our school. We cannot be more proud of these six students, and the teachers who helped foster their growth,” he said.
