Four NKU student-athletes named to Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference track squad


Four Northern Kentucky University track and field student-athletes – Clare Field, Zac Holtkamp, J.J. Webber and Danny Keller – earned Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference honors the league announced.

Field took home the honor for the women’s squad maintaining a 4.0 GPA while majoring in public relations. The senior competed in five meets for the Norse. At the Centre Twilight, she ran a personal-best in the 5,000m, clocking a time of 20:19.35. Running in the 800m at the Kentucky Relays, Field notched a personal-best of 2:33.78 and set a personal-best in the 3,000m at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, crossing the finish line at 12:10.30.

This latest award adds to an impressive list of honors that the Louisville, Kentucky, native has earned during the 2014-15 school year. Among the accolades, Field was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District Team, the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team and earned the 2015 NKU Athletics Presidential Award for the highest GPA among student-athletes.

On the men’s side, Webber earned Academic All-Conference and Co-Outdoor Scholar of the Year accolades by maintaining a 3.62 GPA while majoring in organizational leadership. Competing in four events at the 2015 A-Sun Outdoor Championships, Webber won two gold and a silver medal, scoring a total of 28.5 team points.

Webber took gold (10 points) in the 10,000m, winning the race in a time of 31:36.02, and gold (10 points) in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line at 14:37.78. Webber took silver (eight points) in the 1,500m with a time of 3:51.01. Running at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, Webber took fourth in the 5,000-meter, setting a new program-record of 13:55.57.

This year Webber has also accumulating several academic citations including 2015 A-Sun Indoor All-Academic and 2015 A-Sun Indoor Scholar Athlete of the Year. Webber shares the 2015 Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year honors with Wayne Newman (Lipscomb) and Justin Bryan (North Florida).

Holtkamp notched a 3.69 GPA majoring in biology. Holtkamp scored points for the Norse at the 2015 A-Sun Track and Field Championship, placing fifth in the 10,000m in a time of 32:18.96. At the Tennessee Relays, Holtkamp ran a personal-best in the 5,000m clocking at time of 15:07.42. Running in the 1,500m at the Miami Invitational, the senior ran a personal-best of 4:07.35. The Alexandria, Kentucky, native was also named to the 2015 A-Sun Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team.

Keller earned a 3.57 GPA while majoring in accounting. Keller won gold, silver and bronze in three field events, scoring 24 total points at the 2015 A-Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Keller took gold in the shot put, throwing a personal-best 15.47m (50’9.25”) that ranks second on the conference’s performance list.

Keller took silver in the discus with a personal-best mark of 43.72m (143’5”), ranking second on the conference performance list. In the hammer throw, Keller took bronze with a throw of 47.52m (143’5”).
