Northern Kentucky student-athletes exceed 3.0 grade point average for eighth straight term

For the eighth-straight semester, Northern Kentucky University’s student-athletes eclipsed the 3.00 GPA mark. The Norse followed a program record fall GPA (3.22) with a sensational 3.20 spring GPA.

“This is a testament to the type of student-athletes we have at Northern Kentucky,” explained Debbie Kirch, athletic academic advisor. “Our coaches have recruited student-athletes who are not only driven to succeed in their respective sport, but they brought in driven individuals who strive for success in all avenues of their lives, especially academics.”

Fourteen of Northern Kentucky’s 17 programs sported GPA’s above 3.00. Volleyball posted the highest team GPA with a 3.668, which was mere thousandths ahead of men’s tennis (3.660). Women’s cross country’s 3.56 provided NKU with three programs exceeding the 3.5 team GPA plateau.

“For the last several months I have been touting NKU athletics as being on the rise, and the GPA our student-athletes posted this spring is further testament to that statement,” said Director of Athletics Ken Bothof. “I couldn’t be more proud of the academic success of our student-athletes over the last eight semesters, and especially the last two terms. Our academic services department has done an incredible job positioning our student-athletes for success and I am thankful for their efforts.”

A total of 22 student-athletes achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs this spring, earning recognition on the President’s Honors List. Nearly 1-in-3 (32.2 percent) NKU student-athletes attained GPAs above 3.6, as an additional 54 student-athletes recorded marks between 3.6-3.99. A whopping 70.2 percent (167-of-238) of the Norse posted averages of 3.0 or above.
