See a miniature city made completely of Legos at Camp Ernst Middle School. The town is the creation of volunteer Sam Lapin, whose son once attended Camp Ernst Middle. It features running trains, an operating amusement park, an airport, a castle, space center, water area, stores, homes, boats, cars, and lots of surprises. The previous Lego Town attracted 2000 visitors and raised more than $5000 for the school.
Visitors are invited to play the “Find the Lego Celebrities Contest.” The celebrities include Darth Vader, Ghostbusters, Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, The Beatles, Batman, The Hulk, Harry Potter, and many more. After finding ten or more celebrities, visitors can enter a drawing to win Lego sets.
Lapin, a Communication Professor at NKU, has been building Lego projects for more than 40 years. “Kids started calling me Professor Lego,” said Lapin. “I love that because it connects to my main purpose for doing Lego Town, education. I’m certain that the Lego sets my parents gave me 40 years ago helped me learn to think creatively, and I hope Lego Town will get other kids to start doing the same.”
Lego Town will be on display Thursday, July 9 (2 – 8 p.m.), Friday, July 10 (2 – 8 p.m.), and Saturday, July 11 (noon – 5 p.m.).
Camp Ernst Middle School is located at 6515 Camp Ernst Road, two blocks south of Rt. 18 in Burlington. The entry fee is $3 (free under age 4), and all proceeds benefit the school’s Lego League Team.
