Burlington will host its sixth annual Boone County Heritage Festival and Chalkfest from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
The festival strives to take visitors back to the “good old days” of the city, founded in 1799, and to showcase Boone County. The event at the Boone County Historical Society Museum will feature fun activities and historical items.
Live alpacas will be on display, and visitors will be able to watch spinning demonstrations to show how some things were made during the “good old days.” Numerous vintage cars will also be on display throughout the day.
“There will be something to do no matter what time you visit,” said Jackie Steele, president of the Historic Burlington Business Association and a co-sponsor of the event. “We are trying to get families to come explore the city of Burlington and all of Boone County.”
Along with the car show and alpacas, the Boone County Historical Society will also have numerous antiques on display, including antique farm equipment. Eight different vending stations will offer food and drinks while a disc jockey will play music throughout the day.
Another main attraction of the festival is the Chalkfest. Artists show off their skills by creating sidewalk chalk masterpieces. The theme for this year’s Chalkfest is movies. An area will be designated for children to create their own sidewalk chalk masterpieces.
Local artists and vendors participating in this year’s event will also be displaying and selling their art in designated areas throughout the day.
The Boone County Heritage Day and Chalkfest is a free event. Families and people of all ages are invited to explore the historical side of the county and the many Burlington businesses that help to make this event happen.
