Local Heroes Night honoring first responders kicks off latest Freedom homestand


The Florence Freedom return home Wednesday through Sunday for a five-game homestand that includes special promotions, including honoring first responders and Lauren Hill Night.

The home stand will conclude with Brent and Lisa Hill, along with their children, being flown into the stadium pre-game on Sunday via the UC Health Air Care/Mobile Care helicopter as the Freedom honor Lauren Hill on SE Indiana Night presented by Eagle 99.3. The event is benefiting The Cure Starts Now.

Home stand’s promotions include:

Wednesday: Florence Freedom vs. Rockford Aviators 6:35pm. The Freedom will honor our first responders with Local Heroes Night presented by Dr. Charles Kenner of Kenner Dentistry. Thanks to Kenner Dentistry and other sponsors that have purchased tickets to donate, police officers, firefighters, EMTs and their families can enjoy free donated tickets by emailing Matt Snider at mpsnider@yahoo.com.

Sponsored tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. First pitch against the Rockford Aviators is set for 6:35 p.m.

Thursday Day: Florence Freedom vs. Rockford Aviators 11:05 a.m. The Freedom take on the Aviators in the first of a Day/Night doubleheader. The day game starts at 11:05 a.m. and it’s Circus Day presented by Circus Mojo. Come enjoy the “greatest show on turf” as numerous circus performers will entertain the crowd. It’s a great day to bring the kids and a bathing suit as well as the Freedom having a 40-foot inflatable water slide.

Thursday Night: Florence Freedom vs. Rockford Aviators 6:35 p.m. It’s a Nash FM Thirsty Thursday presented by Kerry Nissan featuring $1 beer & $1 ice cream sandwich specials. It’s also Irish Heritage Night AND Christmas in July to benefit the Salvation Army.

Celebrate with the McGing Irish Dancers as they perform their jigs throughout the night, including a special Irish Christmas themed jig. The Queen City Rugby Football Club will play a game of rugby pre-game when the gates open from 5:35 p.m. – 6:05 p.m. The night will also feature bagpipes, drums, green beer and a post-game concert by Crush. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.

Friday: Florence Freedom vs. Southern Illinois Miners 7:05 p.m. It’s the second Princess Night of the year. Come experience the magic of baseball and princesses and princes from A Characteristic Attitude. The evening is brought to you by Union Pediatric Dentistry. Stay late for spectacular Elite Pyrotechnics fireworks presented by Arlinghaus Heating and Cooling. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Saturday: Florence Freedom vs. Southern Illinois Miners 6:05 p.m. A 92.5 The Fox Rockin’ Saturday presented by Kerry Toyota. Fans will enjoy a post-game concert from What She Said. Gamers rejoice, as Saturday is “Halo Night” presented by Pearle Vision. More than a dozen Halo cosplayers in full gear will be at the ballpark for photos and game interaction. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.

Sunday: Florence Freedom vs. Southern Illinois Miners 6:05 p.m. Lauren Hill and Southeast Indiana Night presented by Eagle 99.3. A portion of proceeds at the game will be donated to The Cure Starts Now Foundation in honor of Lauren, the late Greendale resident who became an icon in the war against pediatric brain cancer. Lauren’s family will fly in by UC Health’s Air Care / Mobile care helicopter and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

First pitch on Sunday is at 6:05 p.m. and it’s another Warm 98 Family Sunday presented by Heritage Bank. All kids get to run the bases after the game and the team will stay late to sign autographs thanks to Jack Lillie Insurance.
