‘Step Up’ challenge has seven participating companies in friendly, healthy competition for United Way


Seven Greater Cincinnati companies have pledged $10,000 a piece to compete in a walking challenge to benefit United Way’s Collective Impact on Heath initiative.

“Step Up, Cincinnati” began on September 23, and will run through Friday, October 23. The company with the highest average number of steps per person over the 30-day period will win the challenge. $70,000 will be donated to United Way on the winning company’s behalf.

“The Collective Impact on Health initiative, along with United Way’s Bold Goals for the region, are working to ensure that individuals and families will have the means, opportunity and motivation to make choices that lead to healthier lives,” said Maureen Balent, vice president, director of benefits, Fifth Third Bank. 

“The ‘Step Up, Cincinnati’ corporate walking challenge is the perfect way to motivate employees of some of our region’s largest companies to take steps towards healthy living while enjoying some friendly competition. Fifth Third is committed to our employees’ wellness and that of the Cincinnati community, and we’re proud to be a part of this initiative.”

The seven participating companies are:

AK Steel
Ethicon, Inc.
Fifth Third Bank
GE Aviation
Humana
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.
TriHealth, Inc.

United Way will also be incorporating a walking/steps challenge into their #2020Challenge initiative for the week of October 12.

“United Way is excited to be engaging with companies and donors in a new way — focusing on living healthier lives as individuals and as a community,” said Sally Aiken, director, relationship management team, United Way of Greater Cincinnati.

The winner of “Step Up, Cincinnati” will be announced on Monday, October 26.
