Jesus Christ Movie Star by Edward McNulty to launch with workshop on major films depiction of Jesus

Local author/film critic Dr. Edward McNulty launches his 14th book Jesus Christ Movie Star at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 21 at the Community of Faith Presbyterian Church in Covington.

The launch is part of a three-hour workshop.

The book and workshop will take a hard look at some of the major films produced in Hollywood and Europe dealing with the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth. But the presentation will move on to films in which a character is similar in various ways to Christ, as in films such as Babette’s Feast, Broadway Danny Rose, Cool Hand Luke, and others.

Cost of the 3-hour launch and workshop is $25 before November 18, and $30 afterward.

This includes a copy of the book (retail price: $17.99).

Churches and groups are welcome to bring additional members, the fee (without a book) being $10 a person. The participants can then form the core of a film group back at their own church. They will also receive some free items such as back issues of the journal Visual Parables.

“I can promise preachers and church program planners will have enough material for a year of good viewing and exploration of theological and moral issues,” says McNulty.
