A week before Thanksgiving a group of local women called the Odds & Ends Homemakers hosted a tea party for the residents of Covington Ladies Home. And “hosted” means the group organized and administered every last detail, down to a “tea.”
The setting was the front parlor in the Ladies’ Home’s historic three-story Victorian, but all else came with the Odds & Ends Homemakers. Ginny Kohl, a frequent volunteer at the Ladies Home, is also a member of the Odds & Ends Homemakers. Her group felt Covington Ladies Home residents would be perfect partners for a no-holds-barred tea party.
The group brought a wide array of tea sandwiches, pastries, luscious fruit, sweets and an assortment of decaffeinated teas for all to enjoy. They set this bounty on exquisite glassware, tiered serving pieces, tea cups, saucers and tea pots — all brought in by the group. The tea party-ers even provided music of crooners from bygone eras.
Best of all, the Odds & Ends Homemakers served and enjoyed the tea party with the ladies of CLH. Sometimes that’s all it takes– a little time spent with a new friend and a chance to say thanks.

Covington Ladies Home was founded in 1886 by West Covington resident Ellen B. Dietrich. Founded by women for women in Northern Kentucky, providing each resident 24 hour supervision, a private room, all meals, laundry service, housecleaning, linens, nursing assessments, activities, and much more.
