February programs at the Kenton County Library include President’s Day, Beatles, Harry Potter, more


The Kenton County Public Library is offering a variety of programs at its three branches in February.
Visitors can check out a Beatles tribute band, celebrate Harry Potter Week, learn an African dance, take a cooking class, celebrate Valentine’s Day or get math help for a child.

The following activities, with times, dates locations, and a brief description are available in February:

What: Harry Potter Week
When: Monday, February 1-Friday, February 5

What: Forensics: The Science of Crime
When: Tuesday, Feb. 2, 6-7 pm
Where: Durr Branch Library, 1992 Walton Nicholson Road, Independence
Who: Teens
Learn how science is used to solve crimes. Analyze human skull replicas to determine the sex and ethnicity of a fictional victim. Combine clues to the skull with crime scene evidence to determine the identity of a missing person and speculate as to the cause of death. Presented by the Cincinnati Museum Center.

What: Harry Potter Celebration
When: Thursday, February 4, 5-8 pm
Where: Erlanger Branch Library, 401 Kenton Lands Road, Erlanger
Who: Everyone

What: The Beatles: Band of the Sixties
When: Monday, February 8, 7-8:30 pm

Who: Everyone
Explore the music of the Beatles in this 60-minute presentation including history and musical analysis.

What: Coloring for Adults
When: Tuesday, February 9, 6:30-8:30 pm

Who: Adults
Unlock your creativity and unwind at the same time with a hobby that’s sweeping the nation. Coloring pages and colored pencils will be provided.

What: Do it Yourself Valentines
When: Thursday, February 11, 4-5 pm
Where: Covington Library, 502 Scott Blvd., Covington
Who: School Age
Create handmade valentines for your friends and family. Supplies provided.

Listen to sweet stories, make a Valentine’s card and decorate cookies. Also make chocolate covered pretzels and marshmallows and a craft from Home Depot.

What: Laugh it Up Valentine’s Day – Comedian at the Library

Enjoy one of the funniest family performers in Greater Cincinnati – Mike Hemmelgam, comedy juggler and ventriloquist. His high energy craziness will delight the whole family.

Throwback to the consoles of yesteryear in this blast from the past. We will have various old school video games for you to try, including Saga Genesis, Nintendo 64, Game Cube, Game Boy and more.

What: Erlanger’s Test Kitchen; Baking with Herbs and Spices
When: Thursday, February 25, 7-8 pm
Where: Erlanger Branch Library, 401 Kenton Lands Road, Erlanger
Who: Adults
Learn to make savory baked goods using an assortment of herbs and spices. Samples will be served. Presented by Colonel De’s Herbs and Spices.

What: Bi-Okoto African Drum & Dance “Music and Movement Workshop”
When: Thursday, February 25, 7-8 pm
Where: Durr Branch Library, 1992 Walton Nicholson Road, Independence
Who: Everyone
Join Bi-Okoto Drum & Dance Theatre as they take you on an interactive journey from the USA to Africa’s Nigeria and Ghana. The richness of their culture is revealed through a broad range of dance dialects and styles with joy, high spirits and excitement.

When: Friday, February 26, 6-8 pm

Watch Harry Potter related stuff, play games, make a wand and eat snacks.

What: Ravine to Freedom with Cincinnati Parks
When: Saturday, February 27, 1-2 pm
Where: Covington Library, 502 Scott Blvd., Covington
Who: School Age
Cincinnati Parks Naturalist Jason Watson will discuss “The Escape of the 28,” a true story based around 28 freedom seekers from Kentucky seeking freedom in Canada. The story is rich in cultural awareness, bravery and perseverance. Enjoy a craft and live musical performance.
