The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided tours through the center’s gallery exhibit, “It Takes Two: Collaborations by Kentucky Artisans” on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The exhibit “It Takes Two” features works in two and three dimensional formats – created by 66 artists who paired up to create 33 collaborative new works.
By working together, collaborating artists brought a variety of skills and backgrounds into play and learned about new materials and methods of working. The idea of collaborating to create art was for many participating artists an entirely new concept and idea.
These free, guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center staff who will talk about the exhibit, the artists and individual works. Staff will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used in the objects featured. Tours will be given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.
In addition, on Jan. 9, Berea artist Virginia Petty will demonstrate her miniature natural material baskets from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
