Sullivan University offers hands-on Pharmacy Camp for high school students to learn more about a career


High school students interested in learning more about pursuing a career in pharmacy have a unique and hands-on opportunity by attending Sullivan University College of Pharmacy’s inaugural Pharmacy Camp.

Open to high school classes of 2016, 2017 and 2018, students will experience the world of pharmacy and college firsthand through classroom and lab activities, staying in Sullivan University’s Gardiner Point student residence facility and a variety of fun evening activities throughout Louisville.

“The Pharmacy Camp will enable students to experience the true reality, excitement and opportunities of attending college and pursuing a career in pharmacy,” said Dr. Cindy Stowe, dean of the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy. “The students will learn about the many careers related to pharmacy, visit classrooms and labs, attend classes led by our nationally recognized faculty, stay in college dorms and learn more about life in Louisville. It will be a tremendous experience.”

Activities will include:

* Tours of the cutting-edge Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, which includes two mock pharmacies, research labs and the only academic drug information center in Kentucky

* Hands-on activities in the Compounding Laboratory

* Interacting with faculty and staff

*Field trips to well-known community and institutional pharmacies where many Sullivan College of Pharmacy students complete pharmacy practice experience rotations and post-graduate residences

*Learning about the 28 different career paths students can take with a PharmD degree

* Understanding the pharmacy school admissions process*A special Recognition Ceremony on the final day of camp

Pharmacy campers will also experience staying in Gardiner Point, Sullivan University’s student residence hall, which features large, furnished rooms with private baths; all-you-can-eat dining hall; heated swimming pool; a recreation area featuring a fitness center, video game room, ping pong tables and mini-movie theater; computer lab; wireless Internet; laundry room; and an on-site convenience store.

Evening activities will expose campers to why Louisville is the perfect place to live, work and play with nightly group activities and events that include a movie and visit to the city’s Museum Row.

Cost of the camp is $495, which includes a $50 nonrefundable registration fee. To learn more about Pharmacy Camp and to apply, visit sullivan.edu/pharmcamp. There is an application process to be accepted to the camp. The deadline for applications is April 18.

Sullivan’s Doctor of Pharmacy Program is an accelerated three-year program fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
