Madison Avenue Christian Church will sponsor a candidate debate on Monday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. for Covington’s four mayoral candidates.
The debate comes just a week ahead of the primary election day on May 17 in which the four candidates will be reduced to two heading into the general election.
Northern Kentucky Tribune and KY Forward editor and publisher and former editor of the Kentucky Post, Judith Clabes will serve as moderator for the event.
Madison Avenue Christian Church is sponsoring the event as a service to the community.
“We are pleased to welcome the community to meet the candidates for mayor of Covington and to learn each of their visions for the future of the city,” said event organizer Janet Chapman.
“Madison Avenue Christian has a 100-year history of commitment to Covington, and we have embraced our mission to serve those in need in our community. We look forward to this educational forum to address housing, social services, and our youth as well as the concerns and needs of the broader residential and business community of Covington. We hope you will join us.”
All four mayoral candidates have agreed to participate.
Candidates are Mayor Sherry Carran, Alphonse Mele, Joseph U. Meyer and Matthew Winkler.
The event is open to the public and will be held in the church sanctuary.
A Disciples of Christ affiliated church, Madison Avenue Christian Church has a robust meal program as well as providing many services to the working poor in Covington.
Dedicated church members and hundreds of community volunteers serve on average, 28,000 hot meals a year, and over 200,000 meals have been served since the beginning of the program in 2004.
