Longtime Northern Kentucky University Director of Athletics and coach Jane Meier will be inducted into the National Association Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame.
Meier spent 31 years at NKU as both an AD and coach, overseeing both tremendous growth and on-field success for the Norse that culminated in reclassification to Division I.
When Meier assumed the role of AD in 1988, she became the first and only female AD at a public institution in Kentucky.
During her tenure, four new athletics facilities were constructed, highlighted by the state-of-the-art BB&T Arena. NKU also boasts a $6 million soccer stadium, the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field and Joyce E. Yeager Tennis Complex that were completed under Meier’s guidance.
The Norse also accumulated countless conference titles and NCAA appearances under Meier’s guidance, including two Division II Women’s Basketball National Championships (2000, 2008) and a pair of men’s basketball runner-up efforts in 1996 and 1997.
“This is such a great and deserving honor for Jane,” said Ken Bothof, current Director of Athletics. “Jane has been, and continues to be, an advocate for Norse athletics. It is because of her dedication and hard work that Northern Kentucky has had myriad accomplishments and is positioned to continue that success well into the future. Jane, thank you for all that you have done for NKU Athletics.”
The 2016 NCACDA Hall of Fame class also features DeLoss Dodds (University of Texas), Greg Feris (Wayland Baptist University), Patricia Meiser (University of Hartford), Joy Solomen (Rowan University), Dr. David Stair (Evangel University) and John Volek (Sierra College).
Meier will receive her award on Tuesday, June 14 at NACDA’s 51st Annual Convention located at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The ceremony will take place during the Learfield Director’s Cup Luncheon.
