The Scuba Shack of Northern Kentucky hosted a “Try Scuba Experience” at their Florence Dive Center for 25 members and staff of Northern Kentucky University’s “Upward Bound” summer program for college bound Northern Kentucky High School students.
Participants were given presentations on SCUBA training and career-path opportunities and the function and use of diving equipment.
They were able to “try” SCUBA diving under the supervision of Scuba Shack’s professional instruction staff in The Shack’s on-site diver training pool.
“We had a blast sharing the world of SCUBA with 21 high school students and four staff from NKU’s Upward Bound College Prep Program!” said Cathy Barrie, instructor trainer and course director.
NKU’s Upward Bound program provides fundamental academic support to students in grades 9-12 as they prepare for college entrance. The prep program is free for participants.
Upward Bound provides instruction in math, laboratory science, compensation, literature and foreign language.
