Two-hit shutout earns Freedom’s Kraus Frontier League Pitcher of Week honors


After tossing a two-hit shutout on Wednesday, Florence starting pitcher Jordan Kraus has been named the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.

Kraus joins Jeremy Gooding (May 16) as the two Freedom starters to be chosen for the award this season. It is the second Frontier League Pitcher of the Week nod for Kraus, who also earned the honor on July 12, 2015 with the Frontier Greys.

In his first shutout of the season, Kraus’ helped the Freedom to a 3-0 victory and a series win over the Windy City ThunderBolts. The Lakewood, Ohio native took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and scattered just two hits and one walk in the complete game.

He also posted seven strikeouts, tying his season high.

Since being acquired from the Lake Erie Crushers, the Freedom have won two of Kraus’ three starts. He has a 2.79 ERA and a 1-1 record with 12 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings with Florence.

The Freedom begin a three-game set on the road against Traverse City on Tuesday, July 26. Kraus will take the hill against Kramer Champlin with first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Kraus is scheduled to make his UC Health Stadium debut next weekend when the Freedom host the Washington Wild Things in a three-game set.
