Lt. Dan Stephens is among eight nominees for the annual award presented by the Kentucky Crisis Intervention Team. This year’s award will be presented Tuesday during the CIT annual conference at Georgetown College.

Kentucky Crisis Intervention Team is a statewide training program for all levels of law enforcement. Programs help people with mental illness cope and maintain their recovery. CIT works to sustain more effective interactions among law enforcement, mental health care providers, individuals with mental illness, their families and communities and reduce the stigma of mental illness.

The organization also works to raise public awareness through education and outreach, complying with recommended standards for developing, implementing and sustaining crisis intervention team programs, and by providing assistance to communities interested in developing CIT programs.
