Kenton County Parks & Recreation, the Cincinnati Observatory Center, and the Midwestern Astronomers are hosting a free Star Gaze on Friday, September 9 for amateur and professional astronomers, as well as all other interested participants.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Kenton County Public Works Administration building at Lincoln Ridge Park.
Steve Rismiller will present ‘Total Solar Eclipse of August 21, 2017’, beginning at 7:30 pm. The indoor portion of the program will last about an hour and introduce participants to what will truly be considered “The Great American Eclipse!”
For the first time in 26 years, a total solar eclipse will occur. For those of us who have never seen an eclipse, this is the opportunity of a lifetime – to see the most beautiful thing on the planet, and maybe not even have to get on an airplane to get to it!
Celebrate the Phases of the Moon, as we view the First Quarter Moon along with Mars and Saturn. These will be visible in the sky as well as in our telescopes following the presentation if the skies are clear. The outdoor portion of the program (weather permitting) will begin immediately following the indoor program.
Volunteers from Friends of the Observatory Center and the Midwestern Astronomers will provide telescopes and expertise in the field, describe observations, answer questions, and help open our eyes to the wonder of the universe.
Who knows what the night sky will reveal? Bring your telescope and binoculars.
Come on out to Lincoln Ridge Park and discover another world of wonde!
Lincoln Ridge Park is located at 420 Independence Station Rd., Independence.
