LiveWell NKY names inaugural recipients of ‘Worksite Awards’ for places that create a healthier workforce

LiveWell NKY, as part of its efforts to improve health in local businesses, is proud to announce the inaugural recipients of the LiveWell Worksite Award. This free, voluntary certification is designed to acknowledge Northern Kentucky worksites that place a high value on employee health and overall well-being, while taking steps to plan and implement evidence-based and cost-effective strategies to create a healthier workforce.

“Our goal for LiveWell NKY is to ignite an uprising within the community to build a movement toward a culture of health,” said Nancy Costello, Director of Health Initiatives at Skyward, the engine behind the LiveWell NKY initiative. “Giving residents access to healthy places to live and work is a priority, so it’s great to see so many companies recognizing the importance of wellness in the workplace.”

The LiveWell NKY worksite initiative was designed through a collaboration of Skyward and the Northern Kentucky Health Department. To participate, worksites had to attend an initial training and complete an online assessment, which looked at health programming, policies and organizational support for wellness.

A total of 34 assessments were then scored on the worksites’ implementation of practices driving improved health. Of those, 17 organizations were awarded gold status, 13 have been awarded silver, and four have been awarded bronze status.

“Building a culture of health within an organization is an on-going process,” said Lynne M. Saddler, MD, MPH, District Director of Health with the Health Department. “The gold level recognition helps honor those organizations with robust worksite wellness programs already in place, while bronze and silver levels recognize those taking steps to improve health, and offers them a framework to move forward with changes to further advance the health of their workplace.”

All recognized worksites are receiving technical assistance from the Health Department and other LiveWell partners.

“Our philosophy is that people are more productive and positive when they work in a stable and healthy environment. Our emphasis on a healthy culture demonstrates to our employees that they are our greatest asset,” said Brandon Christin, Health Management Director at HORAN, a gold level worksite award recipient.

Award recipients will be recognized for their progress at a LiveWell NKY Worksite Recognition event in 2017.

Organizations interested in participating in the next round of assessments can apply in May 2017.

Financial and in-kind support for LiveWell NKY comes from such partners as St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the Health Department.
