The first Volunteer NKY Connect event for 2017 is a volunteer fair at Gateway Community and Technical College on February 13 from noon-2PM.

It will be held at the TIE (Technology, Innovation, and Enterprise) Building at 516 Madison Ave in Covington.

Visitor parking is provided in the Midtown Parking Garage located at 5th Street and Scott Blvd.  Tickets can be validated for free parking.

Join the event to engage 20 local organization seeking volunteers.

This marks the third year of this effort.

A group of volunteer-passionate people from across Northern Kentucky came together in the Fall of 2015 to consider how to systemically influence social service volunteerism.  The team’s goal was to enhance the good work already done by individual local organizations.  The outcome was the development of a volunteer engagement vision and strategies.

Volunteer NKY Connect:

• We build a more vibrant and engaged NKY by easily connecting people of all ages and all walks of life with opportunities to serve.
• We are all in it together, everyone makes the world a better place in their own unique way.
• People volunteer to their purpose, passion and potential.

The work has evolved from planning to action; teams are guiding initiatives called Vision, Connect and Solutions.  In 2016 a Facebook page was started, a Volunteer Vision process developed, the 2nd volunteer fair was held and a best practices tool for volunteer leaders was developed.

In 2017 Volunteer NKY will host multiple volunteer fairs at different locations, bring together volunteer leaders to share best practices, start a Speakers Bureau to improve awareness and develop a process to better link skilled volunteers to the need.  They want to touch new and experienced volunteers AND the organizations that need them.

Volunteer NKY is sponsored by the Life Solutions Network.  This is a volunteer-driven network for volunteers and social service professionals who choose to serve our community by building the capability of people in need.  It was founded by Tony Aloise, a retiree who has a passion to encourage life skills-based volunteerism.  The network seeks to support others to “serve to their potential.”

Many local organizations are contributing to the Volunteer NKY planning including Brighton Center, Welcome House, Mentoring Plus, Women’s Crisis Center and Gateway Community and Technical College.
