Education briefs: Notre Dame signings, Newport Central Catholic scholarships, Beechwood band


NDA 2017 Academic Signing

Notre Dame Academy recently held an Academic Signing in honor of the Class of 2017 for their outstanding academic achievements. NDA’s Class of 2017 has currently earned $13.9 million in scholarship offers. Each of the 53 seniors signing at the event (34% of the Class of 2017) is receiving at least half the cost of tuition through scholarships and grants at the institution she plans to attend. A short reception in celebration of the students followed the signing event in Alumnae Hall.

Notre Dame Academy

Notre Dame Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school of nearly 600 students located in Park Hills, Kentucky. The only all-girls school in Northern Kentucky, Notre Dame Academy has embraced the mission of educating young women to make a difference in the world. The school was founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1906 and has celebrated more than 100 years of faith-based education in the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Beechwood Independent School District band award

Beechwood High School Senior Awards Program, the Beechwood Band Boosters announced Natalie Sweasy was the 2017 Sarah E. Menez Memorial Scholarship recipient.

Natalie Sweasy

Natalie was selected to the Cincinnati Youth Orchestra for French Horn (2015-2017); Governor’s School for the Arts (2015); Interlochen Arts Academy Horn Institute (2016); All State Orchestra 1st chair (2017); 7th chair in the All State Symphonic Band (2016); and 7th chair in the All State Concert Band (2014). Additionally, she was a member of the Beechwood Marching Band (2011-2016); Beechwood Symphonic Band (principal hornist) (2014-2017); Beechwood KMEA State Championship Band (2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016); Beechwood Marching Band National Class A National Champion (2011); Class A Runner-Up at Bands of America Competition (2015); and the Beechwood Odyssey of the Mind (2012-2017). She was recognized as a National Merit Scholar Finalist (2017); AP Scholar with Distinction (2016); Most Outstanding AP Biology student (2016); most outstanding AP Music Theory student (2016); and All-A Honor Roll student (2014-2017).

Her service activities included volunteering at Vent Haven Museum, Rose Garden, Beechwood High School musicals, Ronald McDonald House, and National Junior Honor Society.

“I am very humbled and honored to receive this award, and I’m very thankful the committee felt I was a worthy recipient,” said Sweasy. “This scholarship will help me greatly for my first year of college.”
