Building Industry Assn., Gateway team up to give Enzweiler graduates chance for associate degree

The Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky’s (BIA)  Enzweiler Building Institute has formed a partnership with Gateway Community and Technical College (Gateway) to benefit graduates of their electrical program. The graduates can accelerate their career through Gateway’s Associates Degree programming.

“Gateway is pleased to partner with the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky to offer more opportunities for advancement in the construction industry, one of the state’s five high demand sectors,” said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, Gateway Community & Technical College president.

Brian Miller, BIA executive vice president echoed Dr. Figueroa’s remarks.

“We are continuing down the path of establishing the programming we pledged to complete as a recipient of the Kentucky Work Ready Skills Initiative.  We highly value the strong bonds we are fostering with Gateway Community & Technical College.

Electric instructor C.R. Adams of Townsley Electric welcome students to the Enzweiler Building Institute’s electric program.

“Our traditional earn-while-you-learn evening adult post-secondary students historically rarely consider additional education outside of licensure attainment or hands on skills-based training that our Institute offers.  By including Gateway credit into the Institute, we believe we have a better chance to not only fill the tens of thousands of regional construction workers we are going to need in the next ten years but the thousands of construction managers we will need to provide the region.

“By attending Gateway after graduation from the Institute we hope our graduates learn business skills. We are experiencing company managers and owners that are leaving for retirement and we desperately need not only first line managers but entrepreneurs to head up and own construction companies that call our region home.  We believe that by creating partnerships like this with Gateway that we can make progress filling that gap.”

Classes for the 2017-2018 Enzweiler Building Institute are now open for enrollment now.

Two-year HVAC and Plumbing classes are registered with the state and provide one-year advancement towards licensure.  Electric courses run four years and reduce the work requirement for state licensure by two years.

Courses are also offered in carpentry, welding and facilities maintenance. Classes begin September 5th and are taught two evenings per week; designed to allow for workers to earn on the job hours, a paycheck and classroom/lab instruction in the evening.

There is a discount of $100 for enrollment and payment in full by September 5th. To learn more about the Institute please contact Shawn Cox, Director of Professional Development at 859-331-9500, by email at scox@BuildersNKY.com or on the web
