KY’s Kelly Knight Craft, ‘proven advocate for national interests,’ named Ambassador to Canada


The U.S. Senate has confirmed Kelly Knight Craft of Lexington to be Ambassador to Canada.

She was nominated by Pres. Donald Trump and recommended by the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Craft was a delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Kentucky.

In 2007, she was appointed by President George W. Bush as the alternate ambassador to the United Nations.

Craft grew up in Glasgow, the daughter of late veterinarian Dr. Bobby Guilfoil. She graduated from the University of Kentucky and is married to Joseph Craft who owns Alliance Resource Partners, a coal company. She has two children from a previous marriage.

She has long been a Republican activist, having served as finance chair for the Republican Party of Kentucky and is known as a skillful fundraiser.

“As a proven advocate for our national interests,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell, “Kelly will use her position to continue the long history of friendship between the United States and Canada.

“Our two nations share much more than a border; we ave a heritage of trade and security relations that benefit both.”
