Kenton County police report five dead in two-vehicle collision on Straffordsburg Road in Independence


Five people, including three childen, are dead as a result of a two-vehicle collision around 5 p.m. in Independence yesterday.

Officers from the Kenton County Police Department were dispatched to the area of 11710 Staffordsburg Road in Independence for a traffic collision with multiple injuries.

Preliminary investigation has determined a 2014 Honda Pilot, operated by Daniel Greis, age 57 of Independence was westbound on Staffordsburg Road when the vehicle went left of center and struck an eastbound 1993 Honda Accord operated by Rodney Pollitt, Jr., age 26 of Independence.

Greis was transported by medical helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Pollitt and four (4) passengers in the Honda Accord were pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger was Samantha Malohn, age 27 of Dry Ridge, and the rear passengers were Hailieann Pollitt, age 9, Brenden Pollitt, age 8, and Cailie Pollitt, age 6, all of Dry Ridge.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Kenton County Police Department Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) unit.

There is no further information available at this time. As this investigation progresses, additional information will be available.
