Senator Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) was honored with a “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award Wednesday morning in Frankfort. The “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award is given by the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) to legislators who perform outstanding work in the legislature advocating for issues that impact cities across the state.
Senator Thayer, the majority floor leader, says the success of Kentucky’s cities is important to the state’s growth. “I am proud to be an advocate for municipalities and honored to have been selected as a Friend of Kentucky Cities,” Senator Thayer said.
“Creating an environment in Kentucky that empowers cities to thrive means all of Kentucky prospers. We have passed much legislation that has put the state on the right path and I look forward to continuing to advocate for more positive opportunities for Kentucky in the coming year.”
KLC Deputy Executive Director J.D. Chaney praised Senator Thayer for his longtime commitment to cities. “He’s been someone cities can count on to standup for issues that are important to local governments. He championed House Bill 1 in 2017, and many Kentucky cities have already seen the benefits of the right-to-work law. We are thankful for his continued support for policies that support home rule.”
Jonathan Steiner, executive director/CEO of the Kentucky League of Cities, praised Senator Thayer for his willingness to listen to local elected officials.
“Local governments are glad to have representatives in Frankfort like Senator Thayer who champion legislation that helps cities maintain strong communities and encourages local control.”
Founded in 1927, the Kentucky League of Cities is a membership association of more than 370 cities across the Commonwealth. KLC has offices in Lexington and Frankfort and provides cities, leaders and employees with several services, including legislative advocacy, legal services, financial services, community consulting, policy development, research, training and education, and more.
