Northern Kentucky University continues its Six@Six community lecture series with Associate Professor of Political Science Kimberly Weir on Wednesday, January 24. “Unwrapping the Peanut Butter Cup” is the third installment in the six-part series.
It would be hard to imagine a candy rack without a stack of peanut butter cups. Like much of our food, we take its abundance for granted. But we also take its sourcing for granted. Like other processed foods, the peanut butter cup has consequences for people’s health but also for the planets. Find out the politics behind food choices by unwrapping this ubiquitous treat.
“When you are shopping at a grocery store, you don’t think about how your food got here or the politics behind it,” said Mark Neikirk, director of NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement. “This talk will be eye opening, as there is a greater story behind something as simple as a candy bar.”
Presented by NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement since 2010, Six@Six provides a series of interactive lectures that connect community members with experts to discuss topics of national and local interest. The series runs from October-April.
