News briefs: St. E. Foundation golf classic; Chamber cyber security workshop; Brighton literacy grant


Business professionals, community leaders and decision makers throughout Northern Kentucky will gather together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere to play golf at the 2018 Grant Golf Classic on Thursday, May 10.

Throughout the years, this event has raised more than $75,000 for projects including a new hospice room on the inpatient unit, treatment chairs for cancer patients and rehabilitation equipment that has allowed cardiac patients to recover closer to home. The support of the 2018 Grant Golf Classic will enhance the development and implementation of cancer care initiatives specific to St. Elizabeth Grant.

This year’s golf tournament takes place at Eagle Creek Country Club, 990 Crittenden Mt Zion Rd, Dry Ridge. Those interested in participating can register a foursome here.

NKY Chamber to host cyber security workshop May 1

 The digital footprint of individuals and companies is constantly expanding, leaving people more open to identity theft than ever before.

On Tuesday, May 1, Mack Slocum, director of LegalShield, Inc, will present the next workshop in the Northern Kentucky Chamber Small Business Academy’s Cyber Security Workshop Series. Slocum will discuss various forms of identity theft including medical, tax fraud, drivers’ license, criminal, financial, social security, and child identity theft. The class will take place from 9-10 a.m. at the NKY Chamber (300 Buttermilk Pike, Fort Mitchell).

“Identity theft has a huge impact on victims that is both financial and emotional,” said Slocum. “Individuals and businesses should be doing everything they can to understand their digital footprint and limit the potential of identity theft.”

Registration for the workshop is $10 for NKY Chamber members, $20 for future members, and is available online at www.nkychamber.com/events.

Brighton Center get literacy grant

Brighton Center is honored to announce we have been awarded a $100,000 Family Literacy grant provided by Scripps Howard Foundation, the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Duke Energy Foundation and WCPO 9 On Your Side.

This grant will support the Home Visitation for Parents of Preschool Youngsters program which is a kindergarten readiness program designed to help parents in becoming their children’s first and most important teacher for creating a foundation to lifelong learning and family literacy.

“We know we can’t have strong learners without strong families and strong families without strong communities, so we truly appreciate this investment in our families and the community,” said Wonda Winkler, Executive Vice President of Brighton Center as she accepted the award.
