Braxton Martinez was 3-for-4 with a homer and five runs batted in Friday night as the River City Rascals rolled to a 9-0 win over the visiting Florence Freedom.
Martinez collected a pair of two-run singles during the first three innings as River City built a 5-0 lead. The Rascals plated three more runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 8-0 and cruised to the victory behind a 16-hit attack.
Paul Kronenfeld was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI for River City, while teammate Kevin Suarez went 2-for-5 and scored twice. Martinez added a solo homer in the seventh inning to cap the River City scoring.
Florence starter Zach Kirby allowed nine earned runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched. He also surrendered 14 hits and walked two batters.
River City will host the Freedom at 7:35 p.m. Saturday in the second of the three-game series.
