Normal CornBelters rally from early 3-0 deficit, post 9-5 win over Florence Freedom on Wednesday

Santiago Chirino, Andrew Godbold, Sean Hurley and Michael Baca all drove in two runs Wednesday night as the Normal CornBelters rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to post a 9-5 win over the visiting Florence Freedom.

Chirino went 3-for-5 and also scored twice as Normal evened the series at a game apiece. Florence took the opener on Tuesday night by a 5-4 score.

Ryan Rinsky gave Florence a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a three-run homer. Freedom starting pitcher Jordan Kraus was unable to hold the lead, allowing six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings on the mound.

Florence was limited to just four hits, while Normal collected 12 hits. Godbold was 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI, while teammate Derrick Loveless also collected two hits.

Hurley and Baca both homered for the CornBelters, who won despite committing four errors that led to four unearned runs.

The two teams meet in the series finale at 7:35 p.m. Thursday at The Corn Crib. Florence then returns home Friday to play the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. at UC Health Stadium.
