Northern Kentucky University will host a panel discussion on journalism and media in politics as part of a Kentucky Humanities’ project titled Kentucky Reads: “All the King’s Men.” The panel, “Democracy and the Informed Citizen,” will take place on September 13 in the Otto Budig Theatre.
The Humanities’ project is a statewide effort for Kentuckians to revisit native Robert Penn Warren’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel “All the King’s Men.”
NKU English Professor Dr. Jonathan S. Cullick, author of “A Reader’s Companion” to the book, has been touring the Commonwealth discussing contemporary populism, political discourse and their relationship to journalism.
“As a dedicated teacher of literature and writing, Robert Penn Warren would agree, I believe, that an education grounded in language, literature, and rhetoric is a powerful instrument to ensure the continuing health of democracy,” said. Dr. Cullick. “’All the King’s Men’ demonstrates how seductive the power of politics and political language can be.”
Dr. Cullick will deliver the keynote address and then join the panel discussion with Trey Grayson, attorney and former Kentucky Secretary of State, and Judith Clabes, editor and publisher of the Northern Kentucky Tribune.
Jay Stowe, former editor-in-chief of Cincinnati Magazine, will moderate.
