The Scott girls basketball team is one win away from the program’s first state championship and Brossart is on the threshold of sweeping the 10th Region All “A” Classic boys and girls titles.
Scott (14-7) will play Christian Academy of Louisville (16-4) in the championship game of the first Kentucky Class 2A state tournament at noon on Sunday at Owensboro Sportscenter.
Owensboro is on Central Savings Time so the game will begin at 1 p.m. local time.
In the first two rounds of the girls state tournament, Scott defeated Adair County, 63-32, on Friday and Rowan County, 71-59, on Saturday.
The double-figure scorers for the Eagles in both games were senior Summer Secrist and sophomores Mya Meredith and Sofia Allen. In the win over Rowan County, Meredith posted a double-double with 32 points and 14 rebounds.
The Scott boys team lost to John Hardin, 67-56, in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament on Friday. Nathan Joyce scored 17 points for the Eagles and received a Player of the Game Award.
The 10th Region All “A” Classic championship games between Brossart and Paris will be played Monday at Campbell County Middle School. The girls game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:30 p.m.
Brossart senior J.D. Schumacher scored a career-high 27 points in his team’s 63-44 win over Augusta in Saturday’s semifinals. The Brossart girls cruised to a 46-17 win over St. Patrick with Mariah Frommeyer getting 11 points for the Mustangs.
