City of Fort Mitchell Mayor Jude Hehman and Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter made a friendly wager on the Kentucky Class A State Football Championship game in November 2018.
Beechwood won the State Championship against Pikeville 21-20.
Regardless of the result of the game, the idea behind the wager was to bring the two cities together which is what will happen on Friday, March 1st.
Mayor Carter and his team, as well as their school representatives, will travel up to Fort Mitchell to meet with Mayor Hehman and his team along with representatives from Beechwood School District.
“I look forward to hosting Mayor Carter and his team to show him our City and discuss issues that both our communities are facing,” said Fort Mitchell Mayor Jude Hehman. “We promised them the best fried chicken in the state from Greyhound Tavern followed by a trip to Graeter’s and that is what we will do, and of course we will try not to show off our win in the State Championship too much.”
The Mayors are expected to discuss pension as well as infrastructure issues that are affecting communities across the state in addition to other issues to learn from each other’s experience.
“We are looking forward to the visit to Fort Mitchell,” said Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter. “I’m disappointed that the Fort Mitchell team is not coming to Pikeville but it’s always a win when we can share strategies and ideas!”
The Beechwood Tigers will not be facing Pikeville again because Beechwood will move up to Class 2A next season as part of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s reclassification.
“Pikeville has been a tough and physical competitor throughout the years and we look forward to continuing that relationship off of the football field and into the classrooms and the community. We are excited for their visit and hope this can open a new chapter of cooperation between our two storied school systems,” said Dr. Mike Stacy, Superintendent for Beechwood Independent Schools.
