Pavement rehabilitation project to begin at U.S. 27, I-471 interchange; new asphalt will enhance safety

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is set to begin work on a pavement rehabilitation project at the U.S. 27 and Interstate 471 interchange in Southgate.

Crews will begin work to replace aging concrete with new asphalt the week of April 1.

“We are excited to address the deteriorated pavement at the U.S. 27 and I-471 interchange,” said Bob Yeager, chief district engineer for KYTC District 6. “This will improve the commute for the residents and motorists who live and travel within this area.”

The project will require lane closures and weekend ramp closures.  There will also be a closure on KY 1632 (Moock Road) at U.S. 27. Message boards will be in place to notify the public of the closures once dates are confirmed. Lane closures will be in place starting the week of April 8.

The project has an October 2019 completion date.

The Harper Company of Hebron was awarded the project with its low bid of $1.8 million.

Turfway to close between Aero Parkway and Donaldson Road soon

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) also wants to remind motorists that it is set to begin a highway safety improvement project on KY 717 (Turfway Road) in Boone County to straighten a ninety-degree curve.

A six-week closure of KY 717 (Turfway Road) from KY 1017 (Aero Parkway) to KY 236 (Donaldson Road) will be required as part of the project, and the public will be notified once closure dates are confirmed. The detour during the closure will be KY 842 (Houston Road) to KY 236 (Donaldson Road). Local traffic will have access.

Motorists and residents are encouraged to subscribe to the District 6 Facebook page or follow District 6 on Twitter for updates. Knowing construction updates ahead of time can minimize frustration and delays.
