Nicole & Nonet to kick off Music@BCM concert series tonight at Behringer-Crawford Museum

“Nicole” is Nicole Zuraitis, the keyboardist and composer whose debut NKY appearance last year was captured on a CD, Live at the Two-Headed Calf.

Dan Pugach and Nicole Zuraitis

“Nonet” refers to the band directed by her husband, award-winning drummer and composer Dan Pugach.

Together they will send their soul-stirring sounds soaring through the Behringer-Crawford amphitheater tonight as they open the 2019 Music @ BCM concert series.

In addition to her own original compositions and new arrangements, the classically trained Zuraitis also performs jazz, torch songs, R&B and classic favorites from Sade to Dolly Parton – including Parton’s Jolene, which resulted in a Grammy nod for the couple. Israeli-born Pugach fronts the Dan Pugach Nonet, a nine-piece ensemble consisting of three brass, three woodwinds and three rhythm instruments, which performs his original compositions as well as his inventive arrangements of jazz standards and pop songs.

Weather permitting, concerts are held in BCM’s outdoor amphitheater at 1600 Montague Road – Devou Park, Covington KY 41011.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with refreshments available for sale, and the concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m.  Concert-goers are invited to bring folding chairs or blankets for seating. In case of inclement weather, the events will move indoors.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for children ages 3-12. Concert-goers who ride their bikes to Music@BCM get free admission, courtesy of the Devou Good Project. Parking is free. Adult beverages are available for purchase. Attendees can also purchase food by Colonial Cottage of Erlanger, KY, supporting local community organizations.

The Music@BCM series continues May 30 with a jazz performance and Brubeck tribute by Phil Degreg, and then on Thursdays through August 15 with the exception of  July 4. Guests are encouraged to check the museum’s website, www.bcmuseum.org, or call 859-491-4003 to confirm the schedule.

Music@BCM is sponsored by Ersatz & Moot Point Railway Company and the Alumni of WNOP Jazz, Ruth Faragher & Family, Hummel Hatfield Insurance Agency, KW Mechanical, George & Margaret McLane Foundation and the William O. Purdy, Jr. Foundation Fund of Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
