NKU men’s basketball adds former Kent State standout Eric Haut as assistant coach

Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach Darrin Horn has added Eric Haut as an assistant coach for the Norse. Haut joins Horn and assistants David Harris and Simon McCormack on the bench.

“I have known Eric since he first started in college basketball as a graduate assistant for me at WKU,” Horn said. “Since then, I have watched him grow into one of the rising stars in our business. He is the complete package as a teacher, tactician and recruiter who brings a wealth of experience and connections recruiting in areas where we need to have a strong presence at NKU.”

As a 13-year veteran as an associate/assistant coach at the collegiate ranks, Haut brings extensive experience to Horn’s staff at NKU, most recently serving as the associate head coach at Kent State since 2016. Following a storied playing career for Kent State that resulted in an NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2002 and NCAA second-round effort in 2001, Haut’s coaching career began as a graduate assistant on Horn’s staff at Western Kentucky.

Haut returned to Kent State, where he served as director of operations for one season prior to being elevated as an assistant coach from 2006-08. Haut then spent three seasons as an assistant at TCU prior to returning to Kent State in 2011, where he served as an assistant coach until being promoted to associate head coach in 2016.

During his time at Kent State, as either a player or coach, Haut helped lead the Golden Flashes to five of the program’s six NCAA Tournament appearances. He graduated from Kent State in 2004 with a degree in finance.
