The Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Northern Kentucky Foundation (GDLCNKF) seeks to be responsive to the needs of our Northern Kentucky brothers and sisters in Christ.
Its 2023 Community Impact Program (CIP) aims to help those who are struggling to meet their basic human needs – physical, emotional, and spiritual. It has been awarded to Florence Christian Church for the Fresh Start Shower Ministry Program.
Fresh Start will use the funds to purchase tents, sleeping bags, flashlights, and batteries for shower guests, to be distributed at a Winter Survival Fair on Tuesday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Florence Christian Church, 300 Main Street, Florence.
The Winter Survival Fair will distribute these life saving supplies along with additional resources from community partners.
Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission will be on site offering Medicaid, CCAP (Childcare Assistance Program) and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) sign-ups. Welcome House of Northern Kentucky Street Outreach Team will have case workers available to help people experiencing homelessness navigate the journey toward stable housing. St. Elizabeth Nursing will provide health screening and footcare, and UK HealthCare will offer incentivized HIV/Help C testing. St. Vincent de Paul and the Brighton Center will be present with information about the many services they provide. Humana will help people navigate their Medicare open enrollment options.
The showers and laundry service provided by Fresh Start Shower Ministry will be in operation.
A hot lunch will be served and lots of candy provided.
Halloween costumes are optional.
The Fresh Start Shower Ministry, as an outreach ministry of Florence Christian Church, affirms dignity through a safe and welcoming place with showers and restrooms. The Community Impact Program of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church supports efforts that demonstrate God’s love and acceptance of all people and extend God’s never-ending grace to the most vulnerable among us.
Financial and in-kind donations are welcome to both organizations.
