Celebrate family, culture and tradition at Behringer-Crawford Museum’s Day of the Dead Event

Join Behringer-Crawford Museum for an unforgettable Day of the Dead celebration Sunday, October 13, from 2-4 p.m. The vibrant, free event invites families and guests of all ages to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos, as celebrated in Mexico, Guatemala, and throughout Latino cultures.

Day of the Dead beautifully combines the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors with All Souls’ Day, a holiday introduced by Spanish invaders in the early 1500s. It serves as a family reunion of sorts, welcoming back the souls of our deceased relatives for a joyful gathering filled with food, drink, and heartfelt celebration. The intent is to create an inviting atmosphere for the souls to hear the prayers and words of love from the living.

Explore interactive crafts and engaging activities that connect families with this important tradition of honoring loved ones who have passed. Learn about the significance behind altars, ofrendas, and the colorful calaveras that embody the spirit of this deeply spiritual holiday.

Celebrate, create, and connect with us as we honor the memories that unite us across generations!
