Covington to celebrate Muralist Maya Hayuk’s colorful art Monday at NKY Convention Center

Celebrate Covington’s latest placemaking public art mural by world renowned artist Maya Hayuk tomorrow at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, which is proudly enhanced by the artist’s bold and colorful work.

The mural dedication will take place at 2 p.m. against the backdrop of the newly rendered mural.

Artist Maya Hayuk has been at work on her newest public art creation all week on the convention center’s western-facing wall.

Hayuk is an internationally renowned Ukrainian-American artist and activist born and raised in Baltimore, MD. with an independent studio practice in Brooklyn, NY. She is known for her massive, iconic, abstract murals that transform public spaces with their dynamic energy and immersive visual experience, fostering a sense of community and wonder.

Her art has been exhibited in prestigious museums, institutions, galleries, and on architecture worldwide, including the Bowery Wall, NYC, in 2014.

“Public art enhances a community and puts new eyes on buildings that have been in place in a new way,” said Julie Kirkpatrick, president & CEO of meetNKY. “We are so excited to showcase an internationally renowned artist’s vision on an important building in Covington where people connect as well as continue our efforts to creatively make a place that people take pride in visiting, working, and living.”

The mural project is funded by meetNKY, the Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Featured speakers at the mural dedication will be Julie Kirkpatrick, President & CEO, meetNKY, artist Maya Hayuk, ArtsWave’s Rachael Parker, director of Northern Kentucky Creative Placemaking, Gretchen Landrum, Northern Kentucky Convention Center, Covington Mayor Joe Meyer, and Jay Becker, President of BLDG.

Artist Hayuk will speak at an event at The Carnegie at 6:30 p.m. Monday. It is open to the public.

It will be an evening of art, inspiration, sharing, and discussion with the celebrated world-class artist.

The evening will begin with Julie Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of meetNKY, sharing details about the NKY Convention Center mural project and introducing the artist, Maya Hayuk.
Following the introduction, she will discuss her history, inspirations, and art, and then engage in a community discussion and Q&A session.
