Green Umbrella to host Cultivate + Connect, celebration of food system champions

Green Umbrella invites you to connect with passionate foodies and advocates at their newest event, Cultivate + Connect, a celebration of Greater Cincinnati’s regional food system, on Thursday, September 19, from 5-8 p.m.

For 14 years, Green Umbrella has been at the forefront of fostering connections across the food system. The local nonprofit works with farmers, institutions, restaurants, grocery stores, farmers markets, schools, chefs, food rescuers, volunteers, and consumers across a 10-county region to create more resilient and equitable communities.

Cultivate + Connect will bring together these local food champions to celebrate achievements and highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen food production, distribution, and access in our region.

“The heart of a thriving community lies in its food system,” said Maddie Chera, Director of the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council at Green Umbrella. “This event is a celebration of the passion and dedication of those who work tirelessly to enhance our local food landscape. From ensuring  nutrition security to supporting local farmers and getting fresh, local food into our schools, the impact of our partners is profound and worth honoring.”

Attendees will network and connect while enjoying delicious food from over 20 local businesses. A short program will feature personal stories from partners across the food system, and share information about available resources, such as the new Local Food Climate Impact Calculator launched by Green Umbrella to help organizations track the greenhouse gas emissions savings of their food procurement.

The event will take place at Urban Artifact’s The Reliquary, thanks to the generous support of our sponsors Cincinnati Metro, Edible Ohio Valley, and Urban Artifact.

All proceeds and donations from the event will support Green Umbrella’s local food programs, the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council and the Common Orchard Project.
