John Schickel’s Pickle and Wiener Feast returns as benefit for NKY Special Olympics

John Schickel, retiring state Senator, first held his Pickle and Wiener Feast in 2012 as an election fundraiser. It was a huge success.

“People often ask when we are going to have another one,” he said.

And the answer is, this September, Saturday the 28, from noon til 5 p.m. at Erlanger Lions Park. It’s a free family event — and everyone is invited.

This time, all proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics of Northern Kentucky.

Schickel’s goal is to raise money for this worthy charity and to have a good time as a community.

In addition to the famous Schickel pickles and wieners, a whole program is in store.

Jack “Goose” Givens who was star of the 1978 NCAA Basketball Championship game over Duke, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. A host of Schickel’s friends and colleagues from the state legislature will be in attendance, and country music favorite the “Lazy River Band” will perform.

The Erlanger Lions are hosting and generous sponsors include Duke Energy, New Riff Distillery, and Seligman Distributors.

There will be a silent auction and Split the Post, two raffles, one for $500 of gasoline donated by Greg Schrand of the Shell Oil Company (tickets are $1 each) and $1,200 of restaurant gift cards (tickets are $10 each). Tickets are available from any Special Olympian or coach.

Drawings will be held at 5 p.m. the day of the Feast.

The official New Riff bourbon drink will be a special cocktail “Schickel’s Bourbon Pickleback,” a drink developed by the Kentucky Distillery’s Association.
