The Kenton County Clerk has certified a petition officially placing the Mayor-Council form of government ballot referendum on the upcoming general election’s ballots.
The full proposal to be considered by voters states: “Are you in favor of the proposal entitled petition for the City of Covington to adopt a Mayor-Council Plan, Yes or No?”

“Over 3,000 Covington voters signed the petition because they want to see Covington stay competitive with neighboring cities,” said Petition Committee Chairmen Richard Dickmann.
Covington Commissioner Ron Washington said voters are supporting the ballot measure in an effort to hold the city more accountable.
“Covington voters are supporting the referendum because a transition would facilitate more accountability of elected officials, transparency, and responsiveness to citizens,” he said
Some Covington leaders have announced their support for the adoption of the Mayor-Council Plan, including Mayor Joe Meyer, Commissioner Ron Washington, Commissioner Shannon Smith, Commissioner Downing, former Mayor Denny Bowman, former Mayor Chuck Scheper, former City Commissioner Steve Frank, former City Commissioner Shawn Masters, former City Commissioner Steve Casper, former City Commissioner Alex Edmondson, former City Commissioner Rob Sanders, and former City Manager Loren Wolff.
