Art Equals to present third Woolly Fest November 10 at Covington’s Hellmann Creative Center

Art Equals is bringing the local fiber community together to celebrate the third annual Woolly Fest Sunday, November 10 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Hellmann Creative Center, located at 321 MLK Jr. Blvd. in Covington.

Whether you are a knitter, goat raiser, wool dyer, spinner, or lover of all things fluffy, Woolly Fest is for you. Woolly Fest will host local individuals, groups, and businesses who will share their fiber knowledge and products with the community.

One of the only inner-city Wool Fests in the region, Woolly Fest connects the local fiber community. Guests can take part in a Fluff n’ Stuff exchange by creating mini fiber treasures – granny squares, felt flowers, embroidered badges, or any other small fiber treasures – to trade with other fiber enthusiasts. Reclaimed Ranch will also be on hand with their angora rabbits.

Woolly Fest was created by Charlotte Reed of Art Equals who, as an art therapist with a visual impairment, quickly realized the importance of being open to different crafting mediums versus the traditional pen or paint. Early in her career, Reed was felting and weaving, coming into art and creativity through fiber.

Fiber is utilized every day, whether it’s your favorite sweater or a cozy blanket and ties us back to our ancestors who weaved branches, twigs, and fibers to create threads for building homes, baskets, clothes, and other necessary items. Fiber represents “comfort” to us today and Charlotte’s vision for Woolly Fest is to extend that comfort to the Greater Cincinnati community and reinforce that knitters, crocheters, weavers and any else who works with fiber is not just a crafter, but a creative artist.

“Woolly Fest is about creating a community around our love of fiber,” said Charlotte Reed, founder and chief executive of Art Equals. “While most of us live in the urban areas of Cincinnati, we tend to forget that a few miles in all directions around the Cincinnati metropolitan area are rich agriculture areas. Woolly Fest is about bringing these suppliers together with our local community to build connections and create a fiber community.”

The following local fiber makers and farmers will be “taking over” the Hellman Creative Center in Covington on November 10 to share their knowledge and products at Woolly Fest:
